Heidi Shurtz, Lead Instructor

Heidi Shurtz yoga instructorHeidi Shurtz, ERYT-500, is an outgoing and positive young woman who continues to transform her life daily through yoga.  She is an ERYT-500, Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow teacher teaching in the north county area of San Diego, considered the yoga capital of the United States.  She has taught thousands of classes and has a following of dedicated students who she loves, and enjoys seeing the life changes that has happened for them through yoga. Her attitude towards yoga is to make changes and be dedicated, but to always smile and have fun as well.  As her teacher says “take your practice seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously.” 😉

She completed her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification at the Shakti Spirit Yoga School in Ubud, Bali.  It was here that she found her absolute love of teaching, and chose to make yoga her career path and passion.  In addition to studying asana and anatomy she had the privilege of studying advanced pranayama and meditation techniques from Emil Wendel as well as ayurveda from Dr. Sujatha Kekada.  In July of 2011, after some time teaching, her practice as well as her heart were drawn to ashtanga yoga and she completed a primary series, 100 hour teacher training with authorized teacher Tim Miller at the Ashtanga Yoga Center in Carlsbad, CA.  Both of these trainings helped her develop her style consisting of dynamic asana sequences connecting the principles of movement with the breath, creating not only a strong physical but also spiritual practice.  Always looking for more knowledge and inspiration, she completed her 500 hour Yoga Works Teacher Training in 2014 at Prana Yoga in La Jolla under mentors Sara Deakin, Stacy McCarthy, and Gerhard Gessner.

She likes to guide her classes with the principle that through beautifully choreographed vinyasa flow sequences, yoga becomes more then just your physical asana practice because it is light, free and fun.  She hopes to help people connect more deeply with themselves, physically and spiritually, through the joy in their own yoga practice.
